Field Trips & Events

While we don't have any current plans for a field trip, take a peek at some of our past events.  Click on the event's title to see images from that trip.

Leonis Adobe

For those of you who couldn't make it to the Leonis Adobe, we had a very enjoyable morning. We had a very good turnout, and before I forget, a special thanks to Herb Rosenkrantz for arranging this outing and bringing the refreshments.

Long Beach Aquarium

The Aquarium features a collection of over 12,500 animals representing over 650 different species. Exhibits range in size and capacity from about 5,000 to 350,000 gallons. See our take on all this grandeur.

Nisei Week

Each August, the Little Tokyo section of Los Angeles celebrates Nisei Week.  Here are a few images of the passion and culture of this event.

Lake Balboa

Lake Balboa is another place we sure hope you made it to. It rivals the famous cherry blossoms of Washington D.C. yet is only a short walk from our meeting place. Admission is free and it is a wonderful place to walk, jog or boat and the opportunities for photography are endless. Spring came early to the San Fernando Valley. Come take a stroll with us.

Ft. Tejon
Civil War Reenactment

One of the annual events we all enjoy is the Civil War Reenactment that takes takes place at Ft. Tejon which is North of the San Fernando Valley. The participants camp out in tents and live exactly as they would have in the 1860's. What is nice for us as photographers is that they are most cooperative and love to have their pictures taken. Time travel with us.

L.A. Zoo

Bob Becker arranged to have a docent meet us at the entrance who knew her way around and where the action might be the best for photography. Thank you, Bob! The bad news is that our gorillas were kidnapped to another zoo (I think in Pittsburg - ugh).  But on the flip side, the lions were awesome. You could have paid any sum of money to travel to Africa and not gotten better images of interaction between the huge maned male and his live-in girlfriend. The light was transcendent and the anthropomorphic expressions and body language between the two was never to be forgotten. Yes, there were chimps, orangs, zebras, etc., but this was definitely the highlight of our visit. If you missed it…you really missed it. But come see what you missed.

Van Nuys Air Show

Within 2 or 3 miles of our meeting place is the annual Van Nuys Air Show. For those of us that, like Peter Pan, never grew up and love airplanes, it was a delight. For the first time in recent memory, the temperature on the tarmac was under 150 degrees! Today (June 23, 2003) had a nice overcast and was in the mid 60's.
