Announcement

Hello fStop Camera Club Members,

Image Presentation Rules Change
Please be aware that image presentation for awards will be limited to photos being matted or being flush mounted on foam board.  While the judge is to score the print, photos presented in mats that are dirty or bent may result in lower critique scores.   Make the effort to show your work in the most positive manner.  Framed photos are no longer accepted due to the potential damage to the other photographs awaiting critique and potential damage to the frame itself.  Digital only images continue to be accepted and will be critiqued by the judge; however only printed images are eligible for awards.  This change take effect with the April meeting.

March Photo Event at the Getty
Six members were present at the Getty last Saturday afternoon.  The sky was cloudy, the light was good and there were many options for the group to shoot.  Perhaps some will find their way into the April “Edges” assignment.  Most importantly, it was a good time.

Membership Information
Please help us track attendance at meetings by signing in on arrival or during the break.  If you see someone new or bring someone, help us to get them signed in as well.

Show Your Work
I, too was shy about putting my images up for critique.  However, there is great value in the insights offered by our judges.  Just the process of having to select two images for review each month has forced me to be a better judge of my own work.  In our digital age we can shoot an unlimited number of times, thus the editing skill is really tested.  By sharing, you help the rest of the membership broaden their perspective.  For all you shy folks, remember that we only announce the winners.  No one knows which images were yours.  You’ve got nothing to lose and everyone gains.

Light Painting at Andres Pico Adobe

Saturday Nights Light Painting Event was a great success.  Everyone was eager (once they lined their pockets with licorice) to capture unique images.  We were having so much fun we ran an hour and a half over schedule.

Bill had quite the variety of gadgets and D.I.Y “brushes” to paint with.  From basket domes landing on the Adobe lawn, to bat’s surrounding the Adobe itself.

There were wheels in the sky and ribbons on the rise.  We even had a couple of super hero’s or villains battle it out on the grounds.

At one point I asked for volunteer’s to take part in a silhouette painting but nobody wanted to miss out on photographing the fun and colors.  (The only reason I didn’t mind is because Glyn was kind enough to trigger my camera for me.) Thank you to Jhoe and Adam for being the brave one’s and starting your new career’s in acting. ;-)

A special Thank You to Jim Rowerdink for making the Andres Pico Adobe available to us.  I only wish we had more hours in the night to take photo’s of the Adobe.  If you haven’t been to the Adobe it’s worth a separate trip.  Be sure and have Jim show you around inside.  The Adobe is rich in history and old photo’s.

And of course a big warm Thank You to Bill and the entire Events Committee.  Rumor has it they’ll soon be focusing on the up coming Challenge and the next Fstops Event.

Stay Tuned
- Laura, Events Committee

November 8 is our very last photo critique meeting of the year.  It is a great time for fabulous night time photography.  So, go out with a friend and shoot for this great assignment:  ”night street photography”.
Not much is needed in the way of equipment:  No special lenses required, a standard 35mm or 50mm lens is good, 24-70mm zoom is good. No flash or tripod required.

Trick or Treat, night time subjects abound. Just look for interesting autos or buses or buildings or people or animals or restaurants, or motorcycles or….whatever. Just handhold and shoot. Use the light from street lamps, store fronts, traffic, traffic lights, door openings, or windows to illuminate your subject. Experiment with levels of lighting and longer and shorter shutter speeds. Above all have fun with the experience… get something you really like, tune it up and submit it to F-Stops entries. Share your stuff with your fellow members and see it up there at the November meeting. Happy shooting!
There are lots of websites with excellent tutorials and tips on night shooting; here, for example, are three worth checking out ….
